Connecticut has a new law. Starting January 1, 2027, homemaker companions and caregivers need 8 hours of approved training to work for an agency. Here's the good news: you can do it on your phone, at your own pace — and once you've done it, it's yours.

DCP's approved training program list is due by October 1, 2026 under the statute. Companza is being built to meet the state's criteria and will seek inclusion on the approved list.

What the law means for you

• If you're new to an agency, you'll need 8 hours of training within your first 90 days — and your agency must pay you for those hours.
• If you're already working, you'll complete continuing education each year (the law doesn't specify hour counts for annual training — we'll update this page when DCP publishes guidance).
• The training covers things you already care about: keeping clients safe, spotting and reporting problems, communicating well, and caring for people with memory loss.

The part that's actually great: it travels with you

• You'll earn a verified credential with your own unique ID.
• Any employer will be able to confirm it in seconds through Companza (verification tool coming at launch).
• It belongs to you — not your agency. Change jobs, and your training goes with you. No repeating 8 hours every time you switch employers.

2. Pass short quizzes along the way to show what you've learned.
3. Get your credential and completion form. Save it, share it, show it to any employer.

When can I start?
